AP Biology
AP Biology is designed to be the equivalent of a two-semester college course usually taken by biology majors during their first year. Students taking AP Bio. will be expected to work diligently both inside the classroom (taking notes, lab activities, class discussions, etc.) and outside the classroom (reading assignments, homework, projects). As stated by the College Board "The two main goals of AP Biology are to help students develop a conceptual framework for modern biology and an appreciation of science as a process."
Four Big Ideas are covered:
I. The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life.
II. Biological systems utilize energy and molecular building blocks to grow, reproduce, and maintain homeostasis.
III. Living systems retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes.
IV. Biological systems interact and these interactions possess complex properties.
Materials: A 3 ring binder with notebook paper (2 inch or larger), section dividers, pens (only black or blue), pencils, bound composition book (size 9.75 x 7.5 inch), colored pencils, markers (optional), calculator (4 function with square root only).
Homework Assignments: Remember, this is college level work. You are expected to have all homework completed at the beginning of class. Late assignments will NOT be accepted.
I am available Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in my classroom for students who need help or for meetings with parents.
